Bulkowski's St. Paul Travelers (STA) Trading Quiz

Released 8/4/2022.

STA: Quiz

Below is a slider quiz to test your trading ability. Captions appear below the pictures for guidance, so be sure to scroll down far enough to read them.

1 / 4
chart pattern

What chart patterns can you find? Look for the following (if you find others, great!): 2 inverted roofs, inverted and ascending scallop, busted triple top, ascending triangle, right-angled and ascending broadening formation, broadening top.

The answers are on the next slide.
2 / 4
chart pattern

Here's the chart of found patterns. The inverted roof is relatively new.

See the next slide.
3 / 4
chart pattern

If you own the stock and are a short-term trader (hold time of a few weeks), how do you know it's time to sell? Hint: The broadening formation has a downward breakout (hard to see on this chart).

My answer is on the next slide.
4 / 4
chart pattern

1. Price gapped up in a vertical run leading to the chart pattern. A quick decline can follow a quick rise. In this case the decline wasn't rapid, but it did return price to the launch point.

2. The downward breakout was a sell signal.

3. A trendline pierce was also a sell signal. The actual pierce is near 2 in the picture

After the downward breakout, the stock made lower lows for several weeks in a broadening pattern before climbing to the January peak.

The End.
